Metro Transit – St. Louis

Metro Transit – St. Louis has a light rail system called MetroLink and a system of buses (and vans) called MetroBus.

Metro has an online trip planner and mobile apps for Android and iOS devices.

MetroLink light rail

To get here using MetroLink light rail, take the Shrewsbury (blue line) MetroLink to the University City – Big Bend stop. Walk south up Big Bend four blocks (500 yards) and you will see Bethel on the corner of Big Bend and Forsyth Blvd.

Sunday trains run every 20 minutes, both eastbound and westbound. The schedule for the University City – Big Bend MetroLink station is available.

MetroBus buses and vans

There are three MetroBus routes that stop within 0.3 mile (500 meters) of Bethel: #1 Gold, #2 Red, and the Green Line.

All three of those routes stop at the Mallinckrodt Center loop stop at Washington University, and some have closer stops. The Mallinckrodt Center (which houses the Edison Theatre among other things) is about 0.3 mile (500 meters) east of Bethel, in a loop north of Forsyth, between Wallace Drive and Tolman Way.

#1 Gold route buses

The #1 Gold route goes from the Central West End (by Barnes-Jewish Hospital), north of Forest Park, and to the Washington University Danforth Campus. On days other than Sunday, it continues west to the Clayton business district.

All #1 Gold route schedules include a stop at the Mallinckrodt Center (just 0.3 mile east of Bethel).

Monday through Saturday #1 Gold route schedules include a loop west of Big Bend. From the Mallinckrodt Center, the bus proceeds westbound on Forsyth, passing directly in front of Bethel immediately after crossing Big Bend.

Sunday trips are infrequent. As of fall 2015, Sunday morning Mallinckrodt stops are once an hour at 49 minutes after the hour.

#2 Red route buses

From north to south, the #2 Red route passes through Pagedale, University City, the City of St. Louis, University City again (close to Bethel), Clayton, Richmond Heights, Brentwood, and Maplewood.

All #2 Red route schedules include a stop at the Mallinckrodt Center.

Southbound buses leave the Mallinckrodt Center westbound on Forsyth, turning left onto Big Bend southbound. Northbound buses proceed northbound on Big Bend, turn right onto Forsyth eastbound, and then stop at the Mallinckrodt Center.

On Sunday morning, the #2 Red route buses stop every 40 minutes at the Mallinckrodt Center, for both northbound and southbound buses.

Green Line (GL) vans

The Green Line vans do not operate on Sunday mornings.

The Green Line is a limited circulator route around Washington University and the Delmar Loop area in University City, using Call-a-Ride vans instead of the larger MetroBus vehicles. From the Mallinckrodt Center at Wash. U., the van proceeds westbound on Forsyth, turns right on Big Bend, and passes Bethel, proceeding northbound on Big Bend.
